With reference to my earlier posting on the cutting off of phone lines, internet connection and tv cables on wed, I finally found the answer to it. Was hoping that there could be something reported on the papers or something since I thought it probably could come across as quite a big news. I mean surely there sld be some kinda explanation for those loooong hrs of disruption that was only solved many hrs later. In fact, everything was back to normal only the next morning. Anyways, finally, i found a small article on channelnewsasia.com and it was what I expected. Told u tt must be it Jan! How smart am I? hahaha

SINGAPORE: Phone lines and internet connections were cut off in Bedok North on Wednesday afternoon. A MediaCorp News hotline caller said the problems started at about 3pm. SingTel said it could not confirm how many blocks of flats were affected but mentioned that the incident was caused by contractors doing road works in the area. Workers had accidentally cut off underground telecommunications cables during excavation works. Major restoration works took place soon after the incident. Bubu has been telling me some of the sources of her unhappiness at work. Can really empathize with her but at the same time, I feel a little bad to be unable to help her with anything.

So I told her this quote that I guess pretty much sums up what sld come to our minds if we encounter the same experience.

Came back home yesterday only to experience some crazy telecommunication breakdown in my home. Everything started when I went on my usual routine which was to turn on my laptop to go online and check my mails/surf etc. But what I saw was a sickening page that kept telling me I was not connected to the internet. I thought... ok... perhaps some page refreshing might do the work. But no. It didn't. Ok... so then I thought... perhaps wireless isn't working. Shall try the other laptop tt was connected to the phone line. But No... it still did not work. OK... well then perhaps it cld be that my modem was hung. Turned it off and on and checked the screens again.. but hell no. I was still "not connected". WTH! After trying out for so damn long and I'm still not connected??!

There there... this was the sickening screen tt stared back at me the whole time last night.

If I cldn't even surf the net, cld I even be able to sign into msn? Tt's right... another sickening troubleshoot message popped out. argh.

Ok, so my internet was down. Let me try calling singnet. So I reached out for my home phone to start dialing... but hey... there was no tone on my receiver wadsoever. All i heard was a deafening silence. Damn.. what's going on? First thing tt came to my mind was that perhaps there was some screwups in the payment of bills so i called mum who was still at work. Told her whatever was happening and she said... hey... don't tell me someone stole our line? Haha...the next she told me was tt perhaps our bills weren't paid or there was some probs with the giro system or...? Anyways, she ended the call with a "no use guessing la.. I'd call singtel now since my mobile line's with singtel. Call u back" *click*

Ok... so mum called back kinda quickly to say tt apparently, they've received many calls. And they've sent some engineers down to the area to check out what the prob was cos it looks like only our area was affected. "Oh ok.. so we weren't the only ones affected huh."

So with internet down, what other sources of entertainment cld i seek? Yeah!! TV! Besides it's already close to 7pm. 640pm in fact. There's still Tyra's show to catch before Kinship II. And guess what? Yeah, ur right. The freaking tv was down too. %^#$

Great. So My TV's down too.

I'm soooo bored! I need some entertainment! So, i ended up searching through mum's stash of vcds/dvds and whipped out one korean drama which I've never watched but heard of. "All in" was it. Some gambling show tt spans over abt 20 discs? Good.. this can entertain me for a while I guess.

After watching till abt 9 plus, mum came back surprisingly early and asked me if everything was settled. "No. Even the TV's down." "What? I wanted to watch some show on popiahs!" "Huh? Popiahs?" Hahaha... I got distracted and started talking to mum as the drama continued showing. After a while, we got bored so we opened our main door and realised tt our other neighbours had their doors opened too. It was weird cos usually most of us had our main doors shut, until once in a blue moon. (there r 3 other families living on the same floor as us - a malay family, a chinese family and an indian family. Wow... totally multiracial eh? haha) Cool. So tt facilitated some kampung talks which was fun. We went over to Chopra's and asked if she had the same prob. She said yeah... and her experience was almost the same as ours. The first thing she did was to check through her phone bills in tt pile of letters. Haha... So, we went home visiting which was kinda fun actually. Cos it's like open house/house warming? Just tt it's only amongst families on level 9. How cool's that?

GL called me halfway through my home visits and apparently, his side was affected too. Wow! Never knew it stretched all the way there. Anyways, we made some plans for cny and he also claimed tt he'd be coming over to nus main campus from bt timah campus more often. And of course, cheapo him made me agree to treat him when he comes over. Wth! Hahaha... I'd make sure he treats me when i go over to BTC! Haha! Time to rip ur pockets!!!!! Wahaha... kidding. Janet said she was freaking out cos she had some impt work emails to send out so hopefully her internet wld not fail her. She was lucky cos her cables served her well. It was just us, the unlucky ones. And yeah... she was an irritant to have texted me the following: "Eh nothing abt it in e news! haha or mayb those affected dun even hv communication w outside ;)" and "haha like prisoners of war...radio? k lah slp early" Wth! Coming from a good friend! Hahaha...

As u sld already know, I dun sleep tt early but too early, which explains why I'm called a panda. But well.... I was not accustomed to sleeping at 1230. It was still early and I was still wide awake. And yes. Everything was still down which means no entertainment. What was i to do? Bored Bored Bored!

So guess what I did?

Surprise Surprise! I double clicked this doc after wks of not doing so. Now aren't u proud of me? (Hey wait... wait till u hear the rest.) Wow.. it actually looks pretty foreign to me. But it was good... cos by 130am, I was already sleepy and all i did was like what? 2 paragraphs of crap? Haha... I'm hopeless.

Wow... never really knew how impt such technologies was to me or how much our lives have evolved to have us depending so greatly on them until today. Sometimes, it's a scary thought that perhaps E.M Forster's "The Machine Stops" may not actually be too far-fetched for us after all. Kampung days can be fun to urban dwellers like us but how long can we last?

Anyways, this shall be what u guys will be looking at for the next few months or perhaps years even, since I'm sucha bum. Haha. Have been busy the past few wks with loadsa stuff... work, outings, babysitting, interviews... and oh yeah... which reminds me.. I haven't been making much progress with my thesis again. Better get started sam!

Guess what? This sem is the best school term for me so far. I really feel tt much closer to graduation and gaining some momentary freedom just before working life beckons. With 3 mods left to clear, of which one is thesis, I'm seldom in school. I mean, there's no need for me to be there since there's webcast lects for one of them. The other's kinda self-declared-off since it's possible for u to just read off the text and lect notes to know what's going on. So, basically, I'd only be in school for tutorials and consultations with my supervisor and ... the final lap which is exams before i can finally say IM DONE!!! Haha.. Cld have had the option of ending my torture sooner by taking one non-examinable mod. But well, it doesn't matter. Guess 4 days makes not much diff? Haha... think I prob won't be saying the same thing during my exam period itself. But yeah... tt's how my last sem will be like. And I really can't wait for it all to be over.

Wasn't really dreading school next wk until an online conversation just now. But well, i just hope tt this final sem will treat me good! If anything, just endure!! I can do it!

Will finally be meeting anjali next wk! :) Hope I'd be able to spot her in the crowd when the time comes!

We bought tix to and attended last fri night's musical 'passage of time' to support a few of our friends who were acting in it. It was held at Raffles Hotel's Jubilee Hall which kinda brought back loadsa memories for me cos that was where many of sab's plays were held years back during her sec school drama days. Anyways, fast forward to last fri and yeah... it was the same old concert hall but with of course, a different cast and script this time ard.

So, what's the musical all abt? It's actually based on a true account of angie's mom which encompasses love, betrayal as well as forgiveness. Passage of Time is about a woman named Mei Lye (acted by Neo Swee Lin) looking back into her life. She was once a young girl who had to give up her dreams to learn the ropes of being more 'domesticated'. She later became a wife to Eng (played by Nick Shen), a man chosen by her parents. Mei Lye's life tells a tale of triumphs and turbulence which we would soon witness for ourselves as the musical unfolds. Dun wanna spoil the plot by revealing everything but well, just wanna say that all in all, it's a superb musical tt's both entertaining and funny but sad and touching at times as well. Gotta give props to angie for scripting, directing and even acting!

I got to admit that as I sat down while waiting for the musical to start, I was kinda sianified. Reason being, I thought it was the same old play by BF since the cast was practically the same. After all, it's by Soracco again. I'm not complaining that their first musical was boring. It's actually really good. But after having caught that play for at least 2 times, I doubt I'd wanna sit through the same play another time. So I was actually really relieved when I realised tt the musical was based on a new script with a couple of new songs. Although some songs used were the same as the previous musical, I didn't mind as long as the storyline was different.

We reached at 8pm on the dot so the better seats were already taken by then. But it's alright! Shall make do with my seat. :)

Neo Swee Lin as the old Mei Lye. She's actually quite a funny person. Many of her jokes were really funny and at times mildy RA too. Haha.. but i like it! I recall one of her best jokes of the night - when she was making reference to married men who had affairs - to be something that goes "Men. Their heads above weaken when their heads below harden". HAHAHA

Haha... MM Lee (matchmaker lee) turned out to be played by wenjie! HAHAHAH

the doctor, the younger mei lye and the 50 yr old Eng played by nick shen. Oh talking abt age, there was another joke. A kid asked his grandpa how old he was. His grandpa replied "I'm closer to 60 than I am to 50." The kid said.."Oh! So ur 58!" Grandpa replied "Nope! I'm 68 actually." Hahaha... So will u tell ur grandchildren the same thing in future?

Got a couple of new footwear yesterday night. Initially planned to get a pair of sports shoes cos the one I'm currently using looks pretty disgusting. Although it isn't entirely worn out yet, but it looks really gross. Shall show u a pic later and u'd get what I mean. Guess much of its grossness can be attributed to the park I usually do my jogs at. The park's pretty near the carpark which is currently undergoing some maintenance work. So the jogging track's always filled with sand these days. And it goes w/o saying tt each time I trudge back from my jogs, it would seem as though I'd been playing in sand sorta. And lazy old me will never bother to clean my shoes apart from dusting off the obvious sand particles just before i step into the recess area of my hse. But well, technically speaking, the shoes are still dirty. And u know, as time goes by, it just looks .. yucks!

Yeah, so this is the state of my current pair of sports shoes. Gross huh? Never knew my things cld actually get so disgustingly dirty eh? Its soles are wearing thin fast too. Will trash them as soon as it dies out which i predict to be real soon.

This is my new pair which I'd put on once its predecessor goes kaput. Like the previous time, I didn't exactly get a pretty pair cos I figured I won't actually be wearing much sports shoes these days aside frm jogs and gym or stuff like big walk and jogathons. So, as long as it's comfortable, i'd get it. It's not necessary to get awesome looking ones like we wld during our jc days. haha

I was bored so I ended up with more footwear after a while. They were ok, not exactly very beautiful, but well... yeah... haha

This was the first pair. I thought the sides looked pretty interesting actually and the fit was just right on both sides. Not tight, neither was it loose, which really was rare. I mean sometimes u'd try a size tt's supposedly ur size but there are still some parts on one side that's just not comfy. U try a size larger and it gets too loose. U try a size smaller and it feels like ur binding ur feet or something. So eventually u settle on the first pair and end up with blisters before it eventually becomes 'seasoned'. Yeah? haha

This was a normal black one. My old pair tt looks kinda similar to this one has its straps threatening to just give way anytime. So, u can say tt i bought this to replace tt old pair.

Honestly, I bought this pair kinda for fun. Hahaha... Well, it's not like I bought it to be displayed in the store room at home or something. I'll use it la. Haha... The colour doesn't quite show in this pic, but in reality, there are 2 colours which I thought looked kinda nice. ;)

CNY's just round the corner, so i got red socks for the kids. HAHAHAHA... do u think they'd actually put on these red socks with their traditional chinese costumes? Cute eh? They'd look like some walking ang baos. Omg... i feel like hugging/squeezing them now. Hey... relax.. I m not into child abuse alright. hahaha

Was caught by surprise when I read the new york times just now. Heath Ledger's dead. His cause of death's not determined as yet but it has been speculated to be drug-related.

Heath Ledger's one of the actors whom I really liked. Though he's not exactly a high-profile actor, but well, still likeable. The one thing I found really attractive abt him was tt he was sucha nice and loving father who really doted alot on his daughter. As an actor, I think he's really intelligent, someone who has a knack for choosing good scripts. Not only does he have the looks, but talent as well. And besides, he's not afraid to act in ugly or unglam roles. I guess his last role as the joker is definitely something to watch out for.

Heath Ledger of 10 Things I Hate About You, Monster's Ball and of course, Brokeback Mountain fame is dead. It's just really really shocking. I mean, he had so much going for him. It's just really really sad.

RIP. U'd be remembered.

Kinda feel disgusted by some who talk big or appear to be really knowledgeable abt certain stuff when in reality, they may know just peanuts or are merely just scraping the surface. Sometimes, for appearance sake, ppl branch into name or term dropping somewhat carelessly w/o giving much thought to it. I mean... keep in mind tt yeah... ppl not only judge you by the things you say but by the things you do not say as well and sometimes keeping mum may not actually be a bad thing.

This entry shall be entirely on food! And let me tell u what a difference lunch and dinner makes. Between eating out and dining in. Gosh... they're certainly poles apart! Haha. Read on and u'd get what i'm trying to say.

Lunch was at joo chiat again. Great place if u wanna tuck into some decent fare, especially since it's pretty near katong. So if nothing at joo chiat catches ur eye, or rather, tummy, u can just drive down to katong. And if all else fails, good old bedok will b great too! haha. Mum wanted to try the famous wonton noodles and so we did.

Yup! This is the stall highly recommended by some tv food programme. Is it really tt 'hao chi'? There was a really long q when we were there and being like any other typical singaporean, we joined in the line. Haha

It was a really long wait for our noodles to be served. So while waiting, we bullshitted with one another until we got kinda cranky. Hahaha

After about 20 mins of waiting, our long awaited noodles were finally served! Yeah!

That's mummy in her noodle-action. That bowl ought to be hers. I mean... just check out the amount of chilli in that bowl.

And this bowl is mine! Conveniently dumped all my chilli to mummy. Noodles here were served with chilli in ur spoons tt are filled to its brim. There's also a free flow of other types of chillis and soup too. Self service!

After trying out their noodles, it really beats me why it's famous though. To me, it tasted just alright. Pretty normal actually. To their fans... sorry dudes! No offense taken alright! ;)

Oh yeah... we ordered chinese rojak too. Blame it on our itchy mouths while waiting for our noodles! But well, it's certainly not something any of us would regret about! It really tasted very good! *drools*

Couldn't catch a good shot of the rojak store from where i was sitting. This was the best tt I cld get. It's called "yi ding xiang"! And yeah! It's really really good! Trust me! Haha... as for the guy on the left... sorry! It ain't my fault tt u chose to stone there just when i snapped.

Here goes! Yummy rojak! It doesn't look as good as it tastes though. But can u imagine? Crispy + crunchy rojak even though it's filled with those rojak paste?! wow!

So that was lunch. Sounds good? Perhaps u cld pop in if u happen to be just round the corner or something. Haha. Now... as for dinner... we had home cooked food. And it was a disaster. HAHAHA... what happened u say? The kids came over as usual and ryan was sick. He wanted some attention from ONLY my mom cos she's good at storytelling him to sleep. Sab and TJ were tending to Ilyssa. Serene and Ben were out at the gym and that leaves me to settle dinner. *gasp* ME!? I can't even handle buying daogeis! I know nuts about cooking! Totally inexperienced! I don't even know how to cook rice can u believe it? Can't we just buy from outside? No... they want home cooked food. DARN! Mum gave instructions from the living room as I created a mess in the kitchen. Gosh it was a nightmare. First up, it was CHICKEN WAR/OPERATION!!!! *faints*

Mum said to cut up the chicken first. I struggled with the knife first. But boy... tt chicken meat was tough as hell. I took more than 1/2 hr chopping up the top 1/2 but the chicken was still not entirely chopped into half cos now it opened up like a sheet of crap. And guess what? Look at the chicken feet. I destroyed it. It's claws and feet are like totally detached. I butchered it. Hahaha...

there there! look at the chicken feet. Totally destroyed! After struggling for soooo long with that chicken, i figured perhaps the knife was useless. Let's try the scissors. Hopefully things will get better.

And YAY! The scissors worked! But as usual, look at the horribly disfigured chicken feet. Great. After cutting it into 1/2, I happily told mum.. ok! It's in 1/2 already. Now what? And she said... cut into smaller pieces. I almost wanted to collapse. So back to the sickening chicken I went. And chicken war continued for a couple of mins more.

Mum came in to inspect and she saw the mess of the chicken I created. She laughed like a mad woman as expected and she told Ryan.. "Look! Yi yi killed the chicken. Can I call the police?" And ryan actually bothered to reply her with his "nono!-s". I was like (!*@)!(*@()!* !!! hahaha...Anyways, mum said we shld make chicken soup instead since that's one good way to hide such a horribly butchered chicken. Actually, during the chicken war itself, Sab came in to offer assistance cos by then, she'd already lulled Ilyssa to sleep. And we tried ripping the chicken apart with us each holding one 1/2 of the chicken. But the sickening chicken refused to budge. Imagine how exasperated we were with tt. Thank gdness for the scissors i tell ya! haha

That wasn't all. There was fish too. *faints* And this was what I did. I just dumped everything into one pot to heat up. And I trashed in a whole load of ginger. HAHAHA... Think it looks worse than crap.

There! Crap fish just before it's left to be cooked. New dish! Haha. Talking abt fish, it reminds me of gl teaching me how to choose good fish. Never in my life did I know there was so much to look out for in choosing fish.

Oh. And there's veg to settle too? Mum told me to fry the veg. But Ifreaked out cos I washed the veg and dumped it into the frying pan. Then everything started splattering. !!!!!!!! In the end I dumped everything into one pot to boil for god knows how long... veg, carrots, salt etc... Was just praying hard tt steamboat techniques could be put to some use.

Can't slice the carrots properly so it looked so damn thick. And Look at tt... doesn't it just remind u of cny? Think: Lo hei?! HAHAHA.. I'm hopeless man!

The final outcome after all that kitchen warfare. See... there's leftovers. HAHAHA... but I guess all of them were either nice or too hungry cos none of them complained and ate normally. We shall see if any of them gets food poisoning. Hahaha.. CHOY!

So... now i know what it means by panic attack. Haha.. when ur left to ur own devices, u literally "anyhow whack". hahaha... Told bubu while i was at war but all i got was news of some idiot laughing. Damn it! Hahahah! Don't let me experience this again! At least let me be guided with some demo ok! Alright... i've had enough of reporting abt my embarrassment. hahaha... Adios! Off to bed I go! Niteee!

If ur not in the best of moods today, perhaps the following pic can crack u up a bit. Haha... Was dragged out of house the other day by gl who wanted to get a new pair of spects to replace his old one tt was badly scratched. Image overhaul I say. New shirts, new footwear, possibly even a new ear piercing and now, a new pair of spects. Next up, new hairstyle. Wassup dude? And no... I'm not gonna get u tt adidas watch until u behave urself. Hahaha!

We checked out many different shops but they were either too ah pek looking or too ex. Just when we were abt to leave for dinner, we spotted a shop tt we hadn't yet stepped into. And guess wat? Prices were ridiculously cheap. 75 bucks for the whole deal! Everything including extra services for making his glasses look less thick. WOW! His eyes were practically popping out la.

While waiting for the boss to check some stuff out, we fooled around in the shop. Snapped a few crazy shots. We picked for each other crazy looking frames to try on. I made him try on an extremely ridiculous looking one. Took a pic of it but he refuses to let me publish it, so.. sorry guys. Another time yah? Anyways, he made me try on this RIDICULOUSLY red spects which I look so silly in. He was laughing his head off as he snapped it. See.. now u know what he's laughing at eh? I look so stupid la. Wth! GL! U Watch out! I'd rmb this! argh! hahaha

Been busy to blog again. And as usual, this is a dated entry but well, better late than never. ;) Anyways, check the following pic out! Haha... this was something u missed out on Mandy! Now, kick urself in the ass. Haha!

Just something we managed to snap after dinner the other day. YY honing her aunty skills at the lucky draw booth outside the supermarket. Boo! Caught ya red handed! Don't deny it. That's U!

Alright... back to the 31st dec '07! Now tell me... just how wonderful it is when ur last outing of the year coincidentally is ur 1st outing of the year? And who did u spend it with? I guess 2007 certainly was an eventful year for me, just like it must have been for u. 2008, will be yet another great year I bet. It was one which I'd waited for years and FINALLY.. it's here. =) Yippeee yeah!

Made any new year resolutions? To be honest, I haven't. In fact, I haven't in years. Never believed in making new year resolutions cos knowing myself, i'd never stick to them. I guess Bryan W sums it up best after receiving news of his friend's demise when he said "I shall live for the moment and not plan that much ahead( how could we know wat will happen in ten years when we could hardly forsee what will happen in the next hour)". Well said isn't it?

Met Mandy for dinner after she knocked off from work. It was her last day there and she received bags of lovely gifts! How nice of her colleagues eh! And yeah! Ignore that stingy boss of urs Mandy! Haha! Got gl to exercise his manliness too which he gladly did of course. Haha. No pix though as we conveniently bitched abt loadsa stuff, especially *THAT* tt we forgot! No worries! This wk alright! ;)

I thought the high tech gun was pretty cool actually.

Mandy had to leave after dinner but she was nice enough to accompany us to collect the movie tix before abandoning us. Haha.. she's gonna kill me for saying this. And guess which movie we caught? Aliens vs. predator - requiem. *faints* Wth, I haven't even caught AVP la. Haha... But well, Gl wanted to catch it on the release day, so...yeah. The first half of the movie started off really s.l.o.w. Wished there were more fighting/gory scenes though. As for those who haven't yet caught it and are wondering if they shld, I'd say, unless ur a die hard fan, you can actually give this a miss actually. You know... I often read abt movie reviews that criticise movie sequels to the pits and praising part 1s almost to the heavens tt I really am ultra interested to catch AVP just to see how good a show tt was to actually warrant a part 2. If I'm not wrong, Channel 5 is gonna show it soon. Cool. Remind me to catch it!

After movie, we went to meet janet after she was done with church. Though we kinda expected it... but still... GAWD! Everywhere was jam-packed! Check the following pix out. Kinda lazy to collage the pix... so there'd be a slew of them, including some grossly fugly shots. Sorry abt it. :) Haha...

We snapped pix as we walked, talked, joked, ate ice-cream and body-mingled with strangers. Thank goodness for the good weather cos it made the crowd more bearable. =)

After walking countless of tiny steps with the crazy crowd and getting stuck behind several barriers for god knows how long, we finally reached that strategic spot to view the fireworks. Actually, we have that one brave soul right in front to thank for removing the barrier and allowing the whole crowd of us to dash across the road and inch nearer to our desired viewing spot. Imagine how crazily fun it was when the barrier was broken and the whole throng of us ran across the road shouting YAY! Haha.

Managed to catch a train back to Bedok as they'd extended the train services for that day. BUT the sad news was tt the bus services had already terminated by then and we didnt want to waste $$ on cab fare, esp since taxi fares and their different surcharges are now so complex and expensive so... we walked back! And well... just wanna tell ya thanks for walking me home despite feeling hungry and tired. Appreciate it. :)

2008 already is a great start.
